Want to relive history in Croatia?

An equestrian tournament and traditional chivalric game, Sinjska Alka is part of UNESCO's list of Intangible Cultural Heritage. This significant cultural event in the town of Sinj, Croatia, celebrates the historical victory of the local population over the Ottoman Empire during the Siege of Sinj in 1715.

Typically celebrated on the first Sunday of August every year, the main event is a total thrill fest with skilled horsemen, known as "alkars," riding at full gallop through the town's main street whilst aiming to spear a small metal ring, called the "alka," hanging across the street. The goal is to pass through the ring with the lance, and the difficulty increases as the ring gets smaller and placed higher above the ground!

Participants wear traditional clothing and the event is accompanied by various cultural festivities, music, and local cuisine, making Sinjska Alka not just a competition but a symbol of unity and tradition for the people of Sinj and the surrounding region!
