Location
Set in beautiful countryside, in south-eastern Umbria, the town of Spello is an ideal base to explore the region. It has many interesting historical sites. There are many walks directly from the town through olive groves and past Roman ruins, where visitors can enjoy the countryside in peace.
Assisi, with its famous cathedrals and shrines to St Francis, is just 20 minutes away by car. The stunning city of Perugia is a 30-minute drive. The town of Montefalco (30 minutes) is famous for its fine red wines. Visitors will find many different vineyards where they can try the wine and buy directly from the producers.
For self-catering, Spello’s weekly market takes place every Wednesday morning. Here you can find everything from food and flowers to clothes and handbags. There is also a supermarket a few minutes from the main town gates.
The closest airport is at Perugia a 21 minute drive away.
